This weekend brought the return of the biggest Half Marathon in the World!

Following last years cancellation, the Iconic Great North Run was back!

Ten Skegness and District Runners ran the much altered course, but agreed that it still held the same great atmosphere and sense of occasion. A waved start meant that our runners were spread out along the course, and each got to cross the Tyne Bridge twice as the race snaked around Newcastle upon Tyne, our runners achieved great times on a busy course of 57,000 runners. Mark Haynes was our speediest contender on the day posting a time of 1.42.13 followed by Chris Hurst (1.44.17), Robin Harrison ( 1.58.15), Jane Martin (1.58.15), Corrine Tomlin (2.14.48), Sarah & Shawn Thomas ( 2.18.51), Steph Scott & Adam Patrick ( 2.19.29), Julie Goodwin (2.25.46) and Rebecca Hobson (2.28.32).

Away from the North East, we are proud of Skegness & Districts Club Member Mark Lyon. Along with his Partner Jill, he took part in the Ultra Trail Snowdonia, a 50k Trail race in the Welsh Mountains. This extremely tough course saw many competitors fall by the wayside, but Mark and Jill completed the course before the 14 hour cut off; amazing when you take into account the 66 metre elevation gain every kilometre.

Ian Kocko & Janine Baker also took on an Ultra Marathon this weekend, the Eden Valley 50k Trail Race. This was a challenging course, filled with many stiles and gates to navigate along the way. They both completed the scenic course through the Kent countryside in times to be proud of following injuries, and a lot of recent training miles.

Sunday also saw the return of the Brighton Marathon. Skegness's Lee Cook made the journey to the south coast with the hope of a Sub 4.30 time, and following the organisers admittance that the course was measured long, he was please to post a Marathon distance time of 4.28.38.

Finally this weekend, and a little closer to home, Dave & Roenel Kenyan ran the Bun Run 10k around the Welbeck Estate in Worksop. The route runs through beautiful parkland around this private estate. Dave posted a time of 1.02.55 with Roenel finishing in 1.16.57.
