Boston Marathon

FINALLY Boston Marathon was upon us! Running for its 6th year, and after a cancelled event last year, it was touch and go whether it went ahead BUT with a fantastic team behind the event, it went ahead!

The flattest marathon course in the country, usually held on the Sunday preceding USA Patriots Day (3rd Monday of April, the day of the famous US Boston marathon) Boston UK remains one day before Boston USA. It is also a well-supported event by SADRC and this year was no different with so many PBs achieved even with the hot and muggy weather! SADRC had 8 marathoners running the race on Monday.

Matt West finished first for SADRC with 7 seconds over the 3 hour mark. Mark has worked so hard the past year so its fantastic to see such a great time! Ed Crawford finished with a New PB of 3:11:44 beating his last marathon by 15 minutes. Tammy Rainbow finished first SADRC lady in an incredible time of 3hr32.

Huge congratulations to our other Marathon Runners, Ben Liverside (3hr58), Jimmy Hearn (4hr31), Emmajean Hearn (4:39), Emily Decelles (5hr02) and Julie Goodwin (5hr16). Boston is notorious for being a tough route as it can be quite lonely, and flat...but along with the hard runnng it is also a fantastic race and one people come back to time and time again! Along with our marathon runners, we had our half marathoners. Well it was PB left right and centre!

Finishing 40th overall, and first back for SADRC was Mark Sands running an excellent time of 1hr19, and 3rd in his age category. Brian Darrington followed in a time of 1hr27 beating his old PB by just under 8 minutes. A fantastic run!! Mark Collingwood was just behind, with a sub 90 minutes in 1hr 29. Angela Thompson ran an incredible race knocking 50 seconds off her old PB finishing in a time of 1hr 34. Angela finished 2nd in her age category and is getting quicker and quicker after each and every race! Garrath Ellershaw ran his first race for SADRC runners finishing in a time of 1hr 38. Again, an absolutely superb time! Virginia Neher wore the orange and black for the first time finishing the race in 1hr 57. A fantastic time considering the day before she raced the Haughley Park 10km finishing in 55:44 minutes. What a weekend of running! Amy Lambley got a new shinny PB with a time of 2hr02 along with Corine Tomlin who knocked 2 minutes off from her previous time finishing in 2hr13. Hugh kudos to Kate Howard and Julia Rayson who both completed their first ever half marathon finishing in 2hr25. What an achievement!! Big shouts out to Martin Beagley, Dave Kenyon, Simon Pickwell, Alan Fountain, Maria Yuill, Sam Fox, Miranda Hill, Robin Harrison, Jonathan Francis and Sanjiv Jain who all completed the Boston Half Marathon! What an amazing race day Boston was. It might not have been the same, with less supporters and an uncertainty about it, but SADRC did an incredble job and so proud of each and every runner! A huge thank you to everyone who worked behind the scenes at Boston Marathon for the covid safe procedures ensuring that the race went ahead safe and sound.
