Sunday 12th August
Sophie’s Special….
Striding round Sleaford,
A Right Royal Run 24 Sandringham and a swift half in Skegness…
After a Scorchio Sunday Skegness and District should be very proud of their members achievements this weekend.
It all began on Friday night which saw the annual Sleaford Striders 10k with a large turnout from the club. It was a hot evening but everyone enjoyed the undulating and picturesque course. First home for the men was Phil weaver, whilst Jess Vowles Gilbert was first finisher for the women. Well done both! A big highlight was the vast array of cake available at the end but you had to be quick to get the highly coveted home made carrot cake! A fantastic evening was had by all who took part.
On Saturday Sophie Jane Hearn joined an elite club that only 1307 runners in the whole world can say they belong to. Sophie not only completed her 500th park run , but it also marked her 50th volunteer run. Sophie began her Park Run adventures at the age of seven and has to be one of the youngest to join this select group. Congratulations Sophie on your commitment and kindness to others at the same time. I am in awe. Well done to Emmajean and Jimmy too for setting Sophie on the path and sharing the journey on nearly all of these. So more Hearne milestones to come before Christmas….
Kirsty and Amy flew the flag for Skegness and District at Sandringham where they took part in the Run Sandringham 24 hour event. This ran from 12.00 on Saturday through to 12.00 on Sunday. They both ran 6 laps of 5 miles each making up just over half of their team’s 23 laps. This meant their team won the small female team competition. All this during what must have been 24 of the hottest hours of the year….Winners.
Meanwhile in Skegness , seventeen early birds led by Sarah and Shawn Thomas met up for the Sunday Social Half Marathon. Treating themselves to a very well earned drink and admiring The View at The View ….
Last but not least there was a strong representation from the club in Horncastle for the monthly 5km run around the Wildlife Park. The bears checked in for the pre run brief and this time the monkeys and tigers also showed a keen interest. It was wild…..and warm.
Something for everyone and a diverse range of distances and everyone met up at the end. Enjoy your running this week, pre-hydrate re-hydrate, stick together and look out for each other. That’s what this club is best at 🧡🖤🧡
