Sunday 19th May 2019

What a mixed bag this weekend. We had a bit of everything, everywhere and everything!

This week starts with a first! The White Peak Trial Marathon which ran through the Southern Peak District was run today by Angela Thompson! Her first ever MARATHON!!! Angela finished her first marathon in a stunning time of 3:27.25, 4th lady overall and 1st in her age category. Massive Well Done! A lot of hard work and training hours went into this! Not only did Angela complete her first marathon but achieved ‘Good for Age’ for London aswell; thoroughly deserved! Hope you enjoyed your night....marathon runner!!!!

Also on Saturday, The Paras 10miler in Colchester commenced. It is a multi-terrain race, with many obstacles and carrying a 35kg bag on your back! Sounds crazy but not for two SADRC runners! Maurice Tompkins and Steve Fruen completed it on Saturday, in slightly hot conditions but they did it! Well done to you both, hope you had a fantastic day! Great to see something slightly different!

On Sunday, our serial marathon runner, Guy Hatton completed the Richmond Marathon which is a 26.2 mile course consisting of 3 laps of Richmond Park. This was Guy’s 46th marathon and he rated the course very highly and finished with a great time of 4:23:50. Well done Guy!

Following this, Brian and Louise Darrington also took SADRC on tour to Bedford to complete the Sycamore Spring 6 Hour Challenge running through the Forest Of Marston Vale and Millennium Country Park. The idea of the race is to complete as many of the 4.38 mile loops in the six hour time limit. They both ran a MARATHON. Brian ran a new PB marathon time of 4.06.00 (still waiting an official time) and Louise finished her marathon in 5.41.25. They both said the event was fantastic, and by the look of the goodie bag, was worth it aswell! Fantastic running!

Colin Chambers is back! After taking a break for 7 months, Colin ran the Swaffham 10km. The Swaffham 10k is an exciting, beautiful & scenic "out & back" course. Colin took it steady, but saying this, still completed the 10km in a time of 50 minutes and won his age category! It is great to see you back running!

It’s great to see so many people out running. There are other events which get you out and being active in the community. Chris Sweeney ran the ‘Race for Life’ this weekend in Cleethorpes. It is a 10km race, but raising much needed funds for Cancer Research!

If you fancied something a little different, there are many obstacle courses out there too! This weekend, the Tough Mudder was at Belvoir Castle (where Equinox takes place). We had four runners run this event. Dawn Allen and Abby Herdman ran the 9 mile, 26 obstacle race on Sunday raising money for Clic Sergeant and Rebecca Grice and Julie Goodwin ran for the mud! It doesn’t always have to be a race to get yourself out there, lots of things available to encourage exercise and sportsmanship.

Check out SADRC BRAND NEW website, now live! A big thank you to Brian Darrington for all the hard work you have put into the website. Much appreciated by everyone! https://www.skegnessanddistrictrc.co.uk/
