Sunday 23rd February 2020

After two weekends of cancelled races, thanks to storm Ciara and Dennis, Skegness and District were out spreading the Valentines Day race love.

First up was the Run Your Heart Out, Valentines 10k, at Scunthorpe, over 20 club members took to the windy streets to compete. First back for the ladies was Jane Martin in a superb 52.41, then Miranda Hill in 54.25 and third was Lora Hawkins 54.52. First male back was Christopher Bertins in a fast 39.47, then Darren Weston in 40.46 and third was Luke Haynes in 41.53. An amazing time for the young runner, showing potential, and being able to cheer home his mum and dad who also ran for the club today. PBs were obtained by Lora Hawkins, Wayne Waite and Corinne Tomlin, congratulations. A big shout out for one of our December couch to 5k runners, first time out in race colours, well done Helen Kennedy.

Next we have Angela Thompson who competed in the Snake Lane 10 mile race, Pocklinton, East Yorkshire. She achieved a really good time of 1hr 16 mins, 6th lady in her age group of 105. Angela reported that it is a lovely undulating fast route Well organised and marshaled by Pocklington Runners, she even had time to chat on the way around, amazing, well done!

Furthest race from home goes to Craig Tuplin, who ran in the 30th Brighton Half Marathon. He said it was probably the hardest race he has ever done, in very windy conditions. But still finished with an strong time of 2hrs 8 mins. Very well done, along that bracing seafront.

Then nine runners ran the Stamford 30k Valentines Run. The course promises hills, they were not disappointed. First home for the club in a fabulous time was Mark Sands in 1hr 58 minutes, then Mark Lyon in 2hrs 16mins, with a 6 minute PB, then Ash Brown in 2hrs 20 mins with a staggering 16 minute PB, also winning a spot prize, well done Ash. First lady home was Emmajean Hearn in 3hrs 2 minutes. 2nd lady was Steph Scott in 3hrs and 37, who made sure that her fellow team mate, Ian Walker, got back safely after getting calf issues rather than continuing on, thats showing the love. A massive congratulations to Christ Hurst who finished 2 hrs 46 mins, his first race further than a half marathon, well done.

A very big round of applause to all of our club runners, from our four club sites, who were out running today, very tough conditions and some amazing achievements.

Skegness and District Running Club runs on Tuesdays from Spilsby, Wednesday from Horncastle and Thursday from Boston and Skegness. The club also offers couch to 5k courses, please look online, facebook and twitter for all the information you need.
