In the build up to Halloween we have plenty of treats with not one but two weeks of events to round up.
Today the fearless five took on Worksop Half Marathon which is a popular local event and has been named as one of top 10 most scenic half’s in the country. Great views normally bring hills and Worksop is no exception being a tough undulating route but with plenty of rewards including the picturesque Clumber Park and fantastic support including from a Witch, Clown and Demon handing out water.
Fresh from a 10km PB last weekend at Leeds Abbey Dash (34.33) Steven Dowse was first back for the club in 01:19:20 and 15th overall. Paul Jackson was next back in 1:21:59 followed by Mark Lyon in 01:43:54. On the ladies side Ruth Bullen made an impressive course debut in 01:54:22 followed by Jane Martin achieving a course best of 02:03:09. Rebecca Atkinson was club cheerleader and photographer for the day after earning a course best at Leeds Abbey Dash last weekend (52.35) raising money for Age UK.
Over in North Lincolnshire Janet Harmston picked up a trophy finishing first in her age category at Brigg Poppy 10km (52.53) with Alex South first back for the club in 51.14. An enjoyable out and back course ran for a great cause.
Our third race of the day and third different distance was Fen 10 a flat Fenland route taking in stunning countryside. SADRC was represented by Alan Fountain who achieved a time of 01:37:29 along with an Age Group Win and a great hoodie. “Team Carpenter” also all gave another strong showing with Derrick finishing in 01:11:30, Kate 01:33:23 and Fearne in 01:40:00.
Our reach however is not restricted to the UK with James Willis today completing the Malaga Half in 01:44:18. James went and bumped into an old running friend. How amazing is that! Check out their numbers.....never know who you will meet at a running race in the sun!
In addition, last week, the fast quick world record half marathon in Valencia took place! The second leg of the Superhalfs with Darren Fissenden finishing in 01:34:13, Leanne Rickett (01:50:53) and Becca Grice (02:54:30) cheered on and supported by the Shelton’s.
Outside of Spain the Hearns took part in Berlin Park run. Talking of park runs Simon Wise continued his recent electric form to record another amazing 5km PB of 19.10 at Market Rasen Park Run.
Last weekend also saw Brian Hawkins finish 2nd in the V40 category and 7th overall at Prestwood Hall 10KM navigating several potholes and recovering from a fall and it was a welcome return to racing for Angela Cragg completing her first race of the year at Hadrian’s Wall Trail Half Marathon.
Congratulations!
