Sunday 12th March

It was a chilly week across all four of the club sites this week, but with no settled snow, our club nights remained interrupted. Our hardy runners continued with their training, albeit with a couple of extra layers on.

Eight members of the club travelled to the south of the county for the Burghley 7 mile race on Sunday. The course runs through the Burghley estate, famous for its Horse trials, as well as the beautiful town of Stamford and surrounding villages.

Andrew Thompson was first back for the club in a fantastic time of 44.16, earning him second in his age category. Next Male for the club was Derrick Carpenter in 46.12 and Gareth Smith in 1.08.30.

First home for our ladies was Amy Mitchell in 57.23, followed by Jessica Vowles Gilbert in 57.50, Kate Carpenter in 1.02.38, Ferne Carpenter 1.05.18 and Kirsty Boulton 1.06.47.

Further afield, Darren Fissenden and Leanne Rickett travelled to Chester for the Chester 10k event. This is part of a three run series which includes a Half Marathon and Full Marathon later in the year. Darren finished in 44.52 and Leanne in 53.28.

We also need to give special mention to Steven Dowse and Rebecca Atkinson, who were due to run the Rother Valley Half Marathon in Sheffield today, but the event was prematurely cancelled during Fridays snow. Steven and Rebecca still went along and ran the "Race" on their own, to complete their weekly training.

As another week draws to a close its important to remember what it means to be in a Running Club. We are all drawn together by our love of running, the friendships we have formed, our friendly rivalries and our need to always keep pushing ourselves.

However, occasionally we all need a break, and that's okay.

Its okay not to run. Its okay if you are tired, you are injured, you are hurting, or you are questioning why? The club will be here to welcome everyone of you back to us when you are ready, because as runners, we all understand.

Here's to another great week of running ahead!

Skegness and District Running Club continues to be a fully inclusive club, offering dedicated training to runners of all abilities. We have training nights throughout the week in Skegness, Boston, Spilsby & Horncastle. See our Website for further details.
