12th February 2023

This weekend saw some excellent running conditions for our competing runners, without the recent worries of ice or strong winds, and we had some strong performances from the club across the board.

Firstly, we had three members travel to Nottingham on Sunday for the Holme Pierrepoint Half Marathon, and it was PB's all round!

Steven Dowse put in another excellent performance to finish 2nd overall with a new personal best time of 01:17:48, he had set a goal of going sub 80 minutes, so was very happy to smash his target.

Brian Hawkins also produced a top 10 finish, posting a new personal best time of 1:22.19, four minutes off his previous best.

Rebecca Atkinson was not to be out done, and recorded her own personal best time, going under 1:55:00 for the first time, with a 01:54:39 finish.

Sunday also saw the 29th Stamford Striders Valentines 30k event. It is recognised nationally as a tough event, providing a good training race for those planning a spring marathon. Four members of Skegness and District travelled to the south of the county to compete, and posted another set of excellent results.

Lee Mullen came 9th overall and was pleased with his performance with a time of 01:55:28, a very impressive result in a strong field. Andy Shelton continues his good form, and is looking on course for a great Marathon performance later in the year after posting a time of 02:18:18.

Our Septuagenarian, James Willis, had another fantastic run to be first in his age category with a time of 2:43:47, and bringing it home for the club was Amy Mitchell a couple of minutes later with an official time of 02:45:41.

With a myriad of Spring marathons looming, our members have really been upping those training miles this week. With a number of them pushing a 100 mile training week; we can expect great things to come.

But we must remember the smaller victories too. Those coming back to training after injury, those running their further distances ever to reach their running goals, and those sitting on the side-lines awaiting their time to come back and shine. As a club we acknowledge and appreciate everyone of you.

Remember we are opening up our training nights to everyone in February, group runs at variety of paces to suit everyone. 5K and beyond. Check out our socials for more details.
