Boston Marathon 2024 - Sunday 28th April

Updated: May 5

Boston Marathon. Last year, and many previous, the sun shone down in Lincolnshire. This year, we were due a change around and the heavens opened. Quite the opposite from London the previous week. It didn't just rain.....it RAINED! The wind was strong, the rain belted down and the course was even tougher than normal. That did not stop our incredible runners complete the course.

First off, Emmajean Hearne and Kate Howard. Finishing the marathon in conditions like that. I don't think there was one person who was not thinking of you both at the finish. Both of your crossed the line and did yourselves proud. Emmajean finished in 4:34:27 and Kate in 5:19:39. Incredible ladies, and I think we were all in owe you both today! This was Kates first Marathon....you are now a MARATHON RUNNER!!!

The half marathon was brilliant with Andrew Thompson finishing in 19th with a time of 1:24:23. Derrick Carpenter didn't get enough of the roads in London Marathon last week but took on the Boston road this week finishing in 1:33:02. Chris Hurst ran his second fastest half marathon time, continuing his fantastic form from Lincoln a couple of weeks ago in a time of 1:38:50.

In the Half Marathon a big shout out to Fearne Carpenter who achieved a HUGE Half Marathon PB in tough conditions today going well under the sub 2 hour mark, knocking nearly 15 minutes off her previous time, crossing the finishing line in 1:55:17. An incredible run! Ruth Bullen followed in 1:56:08 and Janet Harmston 1:56:13. The top 3 SADRC ladies finished in 2nd in their age category. Congratulations.

Alan Fountain finished first in his age category with a time of 2:12:40 followed by Sian Matthews (who know has the bug for running races) getting her PB Half Marathon time in 2:12:40.

Jenson Winsor finished 4th in a time of 33:50 in the 10km and Steven Dowse crossed in 6th position in 34:45. Phillip Weaver finished in 15th in a time of 39:18.

For the ladies, Rebecca Atkinson crossed in 51:23 followed by Jane Martin who finished second in her age category and managed to bag herself a PB by 4 seconds. A pb is a pb...and we take it anyway we can in a time of 51:38. Kelly Holroyd crossed for 3rd SADRC lady in a time of 56:50 followed by Sally Sharpe ran the 10km with London Marathon legs in 56:54

Andy Johnson finished in 30th place for the 10km and first in his age category running a time of 45:02. It was great to see other runners out there today such as Tracey Edwards (1:05:32), Sophie Poole (1:06:51) and Sanjiv Jain who ran his first 10km since before covid!

A huge well done for all runners who took part in Boston Marathon today. We had a 30+ runners today in Boston!

Elsewhere, Amy Mitchell completed the wet and windy Adventure Race 10km. This took place at Normanby Hall. It takes place through a cross country course with more water, mud, sad, crawl nets and jumps!

Leanne Rickett ran at Uttoxeter running festival and completed the half marathon. Leanne finished in 1:57:29. A cold and wet run with some lovely runs but always lovely to run somewhere new and different.

Hopefully next week, the weather might be a little different....we can hope anyway!
