Sunday 11th September 2022

This weekend is a special one in a lot of runner’s diaries and calendars. With a starting number of 60,000 runners The Great North Run is the World’s biggest and best ( their words ) half marathon.

Skegness and District Running Club were well represented. We are so dedicated and committed that some took their tents and camped the night before. Darren Fissenden logged a swift 1 hour 32 minute PB finish after a night under canvas and the stars.

Dave Kenyon also ran a PB race within the thousands of people crossing the line in 1hr51. A great achievement even with the bobbing an ducking of people. Congratulations!

Also flying the Skegness flag were Chris Hurst, Becky Hobson, Mark Haynes, Julie Goodwin, Sarah and Shawn Thomas, Steph Scott, Adam Patrick, Rebecca Atkinson and Steven Dowse.

Across the other side of The Pennines, the FAB FOUR of Mark Lyon, Ash Brown, Ed Crawford and Amy Mitchell took part in the Ambleside 50km Ultra Marathon!

Starting from Rothay Park in Ambleside, the course runs up and over Loughrigg towards Skelwith Bridge then heads towards Coniston, Little Langdale and Grasmere before returning to Ambleside.

Mark described the event as tough but beautiful surroundings.

Back in Lincolnshire making a very welcome and heartening comeback in the black and orange was Leanne Rickett who ran the Caythorpe 10km Dash with Andrew Thompson and Mark Sands.

Representing us in the south of the country in Aldbury in Hertfordshire we’re Matt Stephens and Hannah Gould.

Matt reported that he loved Saloman Trail Running Festival experience. Their weekend took in an 11km event…why should everything have to conform to the expected 10k if you’re enjoying the run? Just do another kilometre. There were also Bands, DJ’s and a night run.

Elsewhere our members met up and put some dedicated training miles in ready for London next month amongst others, or were making a steady, sensible comeback from injury supporting their friends.

An eclectic weekend taking in so many different running opportunities. Which is what our club is all about.

We meet every week in Skegness, Spilsby, Horncastle and Boston and welcome new friends who usually always become members. Find more details on our website or Facebook page.

If you’re already a keen runner and fancy a challenge our Bolingbroke Breaker 10km event is coming back with a bang. A bargain at £10 for non members it will be on Sunday the 25th September at 10am. Meet / start at Ramsden Hall in Old Bolingbroke. This will be worth a visit just to walk around, spectate and support.
