Sunday 26th February

Its the last weekend of February, pancake day is done for another year, and our members are continuing to prepare for the upcoming spring race season.

Four members of the club headed to the Snake 10 race in Pocklington. This race has always been popular with our members as a fairly flat, fast 10 miler, ideal as part of Spring Marathon training or as an early target for the season. As its name suggests, the course has a winding stretch that snakes its way through beautiful East Yorkshire countryside at the foot of the glorious Wolds. The race is now in its 31st year, and continues to attract a fast field of runners.

Steven Dowse was first home for the club in a time of 58.23, a PB of over a minute for this very accomplished runner, with a blistering average pace of 5.50 min/miles. Darren Fissenden was next in 1.10.03, another PB over the 10 mile distance and Leanne Rickett continues her return to form with a 1.24.41. Rebecca Atkinson, who is going from strength to strength added another PB to her amazing year with a 1.25.44.

Samantha Fox travelled over to Leicestershire for the Leicestershire half marathon. This half marathon starts and finishes in front of the beautiful Prestwold Hall before heading around the race track and onto surrounding rural roads. Sam did well to finish in a time of 2.04.45 on a blustery course, following recent illnesses that prevented her from training well.

Our members continue to train well with over 1,800 miles covered this week, with more double digit runs being completed in preparation for a myriad of Spring Marathons and Half's.

For some this is their first experience of training for a "big" race, and they continue to make us proud with their progress, for others the spring marathon is a yearly outing in pursuit of a time that will make them proud for years to come. Keep pushing those boundaries guys!

Skegness and District Running Club continues to be a fully inclusive club, offering dedicated training to runners of all abilities. We have training nights throughout the week in Skegness, Boston, Spilsby & Horncastle. See our Website for further details.
