Sunday 7th April 2024
Well its been a brilliant weekend I shall say. We have been on TV, Fat Boy Slim shouted out to one of our runners AND its safe to say, wherever you travel....Everyone knows where Skegness is!
Storm Kathleen you say! Races have been amended. Races have changed. That does not stop our determined and strong minded SADRC runners take to the streets today for races all over! It may been the hottest weekend of the year so far...but also the windest!
Brighton Marathon
Congratulations to Amy Mitchell who ran Brighton Marathon at the weekend. A horrible stretch along the sea front but that didnt stop Amy finishing in a time of 4:35:54. Amy finished the afternoon off with cocktails along with her support crew, Kirsty! Amy was really proud of the race today and was chuffed to cross the line! She even saw Fat Boy Slim who cheered on the Skeggy Vest!
Rutland Half Marathon
Great results in Rutland today for SADRC. Brian Hawkins finished the race in 2nd place! Brian finished in 1hr25. What a fantastic result on a very windy day and tough open air course! A huge congratulations to Sian Matthews who completed her first ever Half Marathon Race this morning in a time of 2hr15. Brutal weather for your first half marathon but you did it! We did tell you this running malarky is addictive! Congratulations to Alan Fountain who finished today in 2hr16 finishing 2nd in his age category today!
Sheffield Half Marathon
Rebecca Atkinson thought the best idea for tapering for a Marathon next week was to do a half marathon today! The wind, rain and HILLS made it for her toughest race to date but she stuck to her plan and finished the race in 2hr05. All preparation for next week in Manchester..
Steven Dowse completed the race in 1hr22 but also commented on the brutal conditions. It may be sunny out there but it does not hide the horrendous wind that is about on courses all over England today!
Since then, Steven has made a BBC appearance by appearing on the news. The news advertised the Sheffield Half and it just so happened filmed the bit of Steven running down the straight. It was a brilliant clip! Becki also commented how people shouted Skeggy really did motivate her along the tough route.
Prague Half Marathon
The Superhalfs continue for Leanne Rickett and Darren Fissenden. no.3 in their quest to complete, now 6 half marathons across Europe! (Berlin has been added this year, giving us 5 years to complete the challenge instead of 2). Travelling late Friday night, they arrived and with 5 hours sleep, woke up to complete the Prague Half. A very hot race and very expensive race, both Leanne and Darren crossed the line. Darren crossed in 1hr41 and Leanne in 1hr57. Darren used it for a London Marathon training run ready for 2 weeks time!
What a weekend!
Wednesday night series are back. Mark in the diary 1st May is the 1st Croxby Crawl 4.4 mile race! The Wednesday night series are great training runs but also great to experience a different race environment as the races are smaller but just as good! They are all run by local running clubs and cost under £5. Win Win!
Next week...ITS MANCHESTER MARATHON!
Keep your eyes peeled!
