Thank You Ma'am; Platinum Jubilee Weekend

Updated: Jun 6, 2022

A 4 day weekend to celebrate 70 years on the throne! What a weekend of celebrations, communities coming together and laughter and friendship shared along the way!

First run of the weekend was attended by Amy Mitchell and Kirsty Boulton. Both ran in the South Kyme Jubilee 5km with both achieving a top 3 position. Amy finishing 2nd (1st lady) and Kirsty finishing 3rd (2nd lady). Congratulations to you both and fantastic to see everyone getting involved in their village events to mark this special weekend.

The Batemans 5km and 10km Jubilee Run followed Thursday evening with great club attendance. A brand new race, and one they hope to be able to continue with in the future showed a great result for SADRC Runners.

The 10k race was very popular with Adam Coffey crossing the line in 2nd and Steven Dowse close behind in 3rd. Chris Halligan had a fantastic race being the first vet over 50 crossing the line along with being 4th overall. The 5km was after and Ellie Marsh finished 3rd lady in the race.

I think it was widely disputed which was better, the beer or the burger at the end. It was a hot race, but what a way so start the Jubilee weekend, with beer, friends and a run!

A great run and raising money for the Firefighter Charity was even better!

Grimsby 10km

We had over 30 runners attend this event in the rain, wind and more rain! Grimsby 10km is always a popular event for SADRC with a fast flat route available which means PB's are always a possibility!

Mark Sands crossed the line first for SADRC (also coming in 2nd in his age category) with Steven Dowse following just over a minute behind in 37:22. This was Stevens first official race in SADRC club colours and what a race time to do it in! Phillip Weaver crossed in 3rd place for SADRC and gaining himself a cheeky new PB in a time of 39:18.

For the ladies, they did fantastic today, getting themselves 3rd place in the team ladies prize! A team prize is made up for the first four runners crossing the line from the same team. Great running from Angela who is on top form at the moment, it must be the engagement ring on her finger which helped her get another 10km PB in a time of 41:59. Jade Brown crossed the line in a time of 43:36, Sarah Dowling in 45:22 and Ruth Bullen completed the fab quartet in a time of 49:59. Amazing running from all 4 ladies, and congratulations on your prize!

We had a host of PB's at Grimsby today including an immense run from Amy Lambley who is thriving this year and is just going with the flow. Amy crossed in a time of 50:16 and now has a new aim to get sub 50 this year!

Simon Wise crossed the line with a PB in a time of 42:59 for the 10km race. Treena Atkins who just loves a good dry run, got the complete opposite today but secretly enjoyed it, especially as the race gained her a new PB too in a time of 1:07:29. Sally Sharp commented on the run saying "it was cold and wet waiting for the start, but once we got going it was pretty perfect running conditions." The rain must have powered her along as well as the race gained her a new PB smashing through the 1hr barrier and finishing in a time of 59:28 and will celebrate with a glass or two of prosecco.

Lee Cook (49:24), Gail Davis (50:34), Sam Fox (53:25) and James Willis (46:17) also ran great races and all commented on how much they enjoyed the course, the atmosphere and the whole race environment.

Finishing off the weekend, Will, Carol and Hermioie took part in the Barton Jubilee 5k. Another local community coming together for the Jubilee weekend. This new run route is also the new home of the fantastic new ParkRun! Will crossed the line in sub 30 minutes in 29:46 with Carol and Hermioie crossing in 43:30. It was all worth it for that fantastic Platnium Jubilee Medal....Its always for the bling! Well Done!

Now go and get the bunting, a class of fizz and a slice of cake...there is still a few hours left of this amazing Platinum Jubilee Weekend
